Millions of car accidents happen about every year. Thousands of these accidents lead to fatal or permanent injuries and disabilities. While an individual may only suffer from a handful of car accidents in one life, vehicle collisions can happen at any time.

One of the things that people wonder is what time of day they are likely to suffer from a car accident. Here’s what people should know:

What time of day is the worst?

Statistically speaking, drivers are more likely to suffer from auto accidents later in the day around 4 pm to 8 pm. This is right around the time people leave work and head home. These hours may vary depending on the time of the year.

In the spring and summer, the most dangerous time of day is around 8 pm to midnight. However, non-fatal accidents are more likely to happen earlier in the day during the spring and summer around noon to 4 pm. Winter car accidents are likely to happen around 4 pm to 8 pm.

However, around half of fatal accidents happen at night. It’s harder for drivers to see other cars at night. Drivers may also suffer from drowsiness when driving late into the evening, especially if they a driver recently left work.

What day of the week is most dangerous?

Furthermore, more accidents are likely to happen starting on Friday and reach a peak during the weekends. Traffic may be at its busiest on Friday since it often signifies the end of the work week. Accidents from Friday through the weekend may see more drunk and reckless driving.

An auto accident can cause someone to suffer from severe disabilities, medical expenses and losses. Drivers who understand their legal rights may have a better time seeking compensation.
