Hit-and-run pedestrian accidents can cause serious injuries

In Tampa and across Florida, pedestrians are always in danger of being in auto accidents.

This has become more common as an increasing number of drivers are distracted by their cellphones when they are behind the wheel. While this is a major risk, other behaviors such as recklessness and driving under the influence have placed people in jeopardy for many years.

To make matters worse, some motorists decide to flee the scene after a crash.

When there has been a hit-and-run pedestrian accident, those who were injured should think about their rights and consider a legal filing to be compensated for what they have lost.

A local man was hit by a car and suffered serious injuries. The vehicle then sped away. After speaking with witnesses, however, law enforcement located a 34-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle. The woman had hit the man as he crossed the street. Apparently, witnesses pursued her until law enforcement stopped her vehicle around four miles away. Her windshield was cracked in a way that resembled a spider web.

Officers noted the woman seemed confused and could not follow their instructions. She had trouble standing and could not stay upright without assistance. When she was given Breathalyzer tests, it registered more than 0.15 in two separate tests. Under state law, the blood-alcohol concentration to be considered under the influence is 0.08. The man who was hit had a cut on the back of his head, and it is possible that his ankle was broken. The woman faces multiple offenses for the crash.

Auto accidents can happen without warning and change a person’s life forever. With the lost wages from being unable to work to the medical costs to the changes to their lifestyle, they will have a series of problems that did not need to happen. This is made even worse when it is a pedestrian who is hit by a drunk driver who then decides to flee. When this series of events has happened, the injured person and the family will frequently feel overwhelmed and be unsure of what to do. Having legal advice from a law firm that specializes in auto accidents can provide guidance and help in moving forward with a lawsuit.
