Truck accidents can happen from unsecured lifts

When Floridians think of truck accidents, they will automatically imagine a collision between a large 18-wheel semi-truck and a passenger vehicle with all the negative connotations that go with such a crash. This is a natural reaction as many truck crashes happen in this way. However, there are other ways in which people can suffer injuries because of a truck.

If, for example, a load is not secured properly or a part of the truck that should have been locked was not, unsuspecting passersby in vehicles, on bicycles or pedestrians can suffer serious injuries and death. When this happens, it can be the basis for a lawsuit to be compensated.

Recently, a truck driver failed to lock a wheelchair lift gate on the back of the truck and it flew open, hitting several bicyclists and sending them to the hospital. According to the investigation, the truck was making a left turn when the gate opened and hit four bicyclists. Investigators believe that the lift had not been properly secured. The driver claimed to have been unaware of what happened and continued driving. When he was stopped, he was asked if there were any warning signals when such an incident happened and he said no.

Accidents between someone in a smaller vehicle or someone who is not in a vehicle at all and the truck can cause serious injuries and death. When these crashes happen without warning and they are due to a driver who simply did not do what was required to ensure the entire truck was adequately secured, the trucker is responsible for that mistake. Medical costs, lost income and extensive problems over the long term can arise after there is an incident involving a truck. Those who have been hurt and families who have lost a loved one in a truck accident must consider their options in filing a claim to be compensated.
